  • Giving the gift of Christmas

    11th December, 2020 | by
St Vinnie's Christmas Appeal - Give the gift of Christmas read more

Materials Handling has supported Greenslopes Private Hospital and St Vincent de Paul by donating gift cards as part of the charity’s Christmas Appeal.

By donating to this cause, over 50 families in the Mount Gravatt, Annerley and Holland Park areas will be able to experience the true spirit of this festival season.

A tradition at the hospital for the past 22-years, our loyal partnership has allowed them to continue their work especially during a year that has brought hardship and grief to many. Millions of Australian families spend Christmas in poverty. National President of St Vincent de Paul Society, Claire Victory, spoke about how this year has been particularly tough for Australians due to the pandemic.

“Job losses, business closures and reduced working hours have placed many communities under an increased financial strain,” Ms Victory said.

“The Federal Government has reduced the Coronavirus supplement and it will drop again early next year, plunging many more people into poverty, and other supports such as the moratorium on evictions are also being lifted in some states. Even without border closures and travel restrictions, many people in our community find Christmas to be a particularly lonely time of year due to social isolation.”

Every year, Materials Handling and Australian communities assist the St Vinnies Christmas Appeal by donating to those who have fallen on hard times. Ms Victory said COVID-19 has made it harder for St Vinnies to meet the needs of the people it serves, especially with restrictions and social distancing requirements.

“Belts have tightened around the nation, and our committed volunteers have been prevented from helping because of COVID risks. During the lockdown, many Vinnies shops across Australia had to close or reduce their operations, reducing our ability to generate funds to distribute to people in need,” said Ms Victory.

“This year’s campaign has been launched at the end of a year many would rather forget. But with your help, we will be able to make this festive season that little bit brighter for people in our community who are doing it particularly tough.”

The St Vincent de Paul Society in Australia has over 60,000 members and volunteers who operate in over 1,000 groups located in local communities across the country. With the assistance of Greenslopes Private Hospital, the gift cards donated by Materials Handling will allow families to purchase essential items and food. Donations can help provide families with comfort and security this Christmas.

Ball Fence Hand Rail System read more

Ball Fence is a galvanised, tubular handrail system that can be used in a range of configurations due to its versatile design. It provides a protective safety barrier, which defines walkways and separates pedestrians from moving vehicles and forklifts. It allows people to access pathways safely while also safeguarding building assets or valuable equipment.

The Ball Fence Handrail Systems comply with relevant Australian Standards (like AS1657:2013) and is the perfect choice for safety. It is suited for both internal and outdoor use. The post components add support and are modular. Barrier strength derives from the combination of the top rail (handrail – 42 mm OD pipe) and centre rail (knee rail – 33 mm OD pipe).

Ball Fence components are usually constructed on-site or delivered to the job site in parts for easy installation. Assembly is quick and easy and can be completed by anyone on site.

  • Vinnies Christmas Appeal 2017

    IMG 1852 e1513229561359 read more

For many families out there, Christmas is a happy and festive occasion.

The sad reality, however, is that 13.3% of Australians are living in poverty.  Facing a number of challenges every day, most parents cannot provide for their kids.  Of that percentage, 731 000 children may not experience a festive wish they so desire.

Helping to change these lives is the St Vincent de Paul Society and their amazing charitable venture, the ‘St Vinnies Christmas Appeal’.

As one of the many opportunities St Vinnies provides to help disadvantaged men and women, the Christmas Appeal really aids those less fortunate. At a time of great need for many households – especially families – parents try to give their children the best Christmas they can afford.  When they cannot meet those expectations, St Vinnies is there to support them with the help and generosity of the public.

As Christmas is a time for giving and sharing, we are proud to support Greenslopes Private Hospital, once again, and make a solid contribution to this endeavour. To help make the load a little easier, Materials Handling contributed a number of bicycles (with helmets, of course) to young boys and girls, varying in ages from 2 to 10-years-old.   We hope these gifts will be a great surprise for a number of children on Christmas morning.

Not only is supporting the Christmas Appeal a wonderful way to give, but it’s also a time to appreciate all that we have by thinking of our local communities and other families.  We believe, one simple donation can give the opportunity for a better life.

We would like to extend the warm Christmas wishes and hope everyone has a festive and joyful holiday.

The St Vincent de Paul Society is always seeking volunteers and motivated individuals who would like to help their community.  To get involved, please visit the organisation at https://www.vinnies.org.au/page/Get_Involved/ . Alternatively, if you would like to donate to the Christmas Appeal, please call 13 18 12 or visit https://donate.vinnies.org.au/donation-hub-christmas-appeal.

Christmas is a time for family and celebrations. It’s a time to create meaningful memories and successfully bring people together during a cherished holiday season. For some families, however, it’s hard to feel joy when living conditions are unaffordable. Of the 3 million Australians who are living below poverty, approximately 731 000 of them are children.

Despite the sentimental value Christmas can bring, for some families, it’s hard to feel the joy at a time of need. Enter the St Vincent de Paul Society and their Vinnies Christmas Appeal.  As a charity that is committed to giving to those who truly need help, the St Vinnies troupes offer a range of initiatives to fight against poverty and inequality.

Each year, the charity works to shape a more compassionate society and assist many members of the community. Their Christmas Appeal is supported by many philanthropists with efforts spread nationwide. Last year in Brisbane, Queensland, more than 2,700 people in need were given hope and a more joyful Christmas. Donations are widely appreciated as far too many people face a Christmas without much cheer.

As such, Materials Handling was proud to donate to the cause once again.  For over 5 years, we’ve supported the charity and its efforts, by gifting presents to young children.  Making for a memorable Christmas Day, we purchased several bicycles, complete with helmets, for kids aged 11-years-old and under to enjoy.  These presents will be assembled and gifted on Christmas morning by the Greenslopes Private Hospital division of the charity.  The hospital helps facilitate the delivery of many donations.  They assist the charity with several of their Christmas efforts.

Your gift can change lives as well.  Through support and acts of kindness, families can have the Christmas they deserve.  If you’d like to contribute to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal, visit vinnies.org.au, phone 131812 or visit any local Vinnies Shop.
