  • Take a moment for Safe Work Month

    7th October, 2020 | by
National Safe Work Month hero image read more

October marks Australia’s National Safe Work Month to highlight the importance of workplace health and safety.

With the continuing threat of COVID-19, this year’s initiative, which is aptly themed “Work Health and Safety through COVID-19”, reflects the ongoing challenges of the pandemic on Australian workforces.

Impacts have been felt through many businesses, especially in their operations, with new physical distancing, hygiene, and cleaning requirements, as well as innovations to change the way employees work. COVID-19 has emphasised many health and safety risks, especially as workers move to digital office spaces.

As such, National Safe Work Month presents an opportunity to build awareness about organisational health and safety, encourage discussions, share resources about safety practices, and ultimately urge businesses to future proof their safety plans.

    Safety for everyone

The initiative, led by Safe Work Australia, reminds Australians to ensure safety is a top priority. With several resources provided online, businesses can effectively support and promote safety at work. Safe Work Australia Chair, Diane Smith-Gander, said safety is something that should be considered by everyone.

“Safety at work affects everyone – workers, their families, businesses, and our community,” said Diane.

“All workers have the right to a healthy and safe working environment, and no work-related injury, illness or death is acceptable. Together, we can create safer workplaces for everyone.”

Any industry or workplace can take part in National Safe Work Month and champion work health and safety among their organisation and community. Information is accessible and easily downloadable via Safe Work Australia’s website. Safe Work Chief Executive Officer, Michelle Baxter, said organisations should embrace this great initiative.

“We’re inviting workplaces across Australia to take part in National Safe Work Month and show their ongoing commitment to health and safety at work, through COVID-19 and beyond,” said Michelle.

“The National Safe Work Month campaign kit is available online now and has a suite of resources to help support and promote safety at work.”

  • Vinnies Christmas Appeal 2018

    6th December, 2018 | by
181206 St Vinnies Charity read more

Christmas is a time for family and celebrations. It’s a time to create meaningful memories and successfully bring people together during a cherished holiday season. For some families, however, it’s hard to feel joy when living conditions are unaffordable. Of the 3 million Australians who are living below poverty, approximately 731 000 of them are children.

Despite the sentimental value Christmas can bring, for some families, it’s hard to feel the joy at a time of need. Enter the St Vincent de Paul Society and their Vinnies Christmas Appeal.  As a charity that is committed to giving to those who truly need help, the St Vinnies troupes offer a range of initiatives to fight against poverty and inequality.

Each year, the charity works to shape a more compassionate society and assist many members of the community. Their Christmas Appeal is supported by many philanthropists with efforts spread nationwide. Last year in Brisbane, Queensland, more than 2,700 people in need were given hope and a more joyful Christmas. Donations are widely appreciated as far too many people face a Christmas without much cheer.

As such, Materials Handling was proud to donate to the cause once again.  For over 5 years, we’ve supported the charity and its efforts, by gifting presents to young children.  Making for a memorable Christmas Day, we purchased several bicycles, complete with helmets, for kids aged 11-years-old and under to enjoy.  These presents will be assembled and gifted on Christmas morning by the Greenslopes Private Hospital division of the charity.  The hospital helps facilitate the delivery of many donations.  They assist the charity with several of their Christmas efforts.

Your gift can change lives as well.  Through support and acts of kindness, families can have the Christmas they deserve.  If you’d like to contribute to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal, visit vinnies.org.au, phone 131812 or visit any local Vinnies Shop.

  • Vinnies Christmas Appeal 2017

    14th December, 2017 | by
    IMG 1852 e1513229561359 read more

For many families out there, Christmas is a happy and festive occasion.

The sad reality, however, is that 13.3% of Australians are living in poverty.  Facing a number of challenges every day, most parents cannot provide for their kids.  Of that percentage, 731 000 children may not experience a festive wish they so desire.

Helping to change these lives is the St Vincent de Paul Society and their amazing charitable venture, the ‘St Vinnies Christmas Appeal’.

As one of the many opportunities St Vinnies provides to help disadvantaged men and women, the Christmas Appeal really aids those less fortunate. At a time of great need for many households – especially families – parents try to give their children the best Christmas they can afford.  When they cannot meet those expectations, St Vinnies is there to support them with the help and generosity of the public.

As Christmas is a time for giving and sharing, we are proud to support Greenslopes Private Hospital, once again, and make a solid contribution to this endeavour. To help make the load a little easier, Materials Handling contributed a number of bicycles (with helmets, of course) to young boys and girls, varying in ages from 2 to 10-years-old.   We hope these gifts will be a great surprise for a number of children on Christmas morning.

Not only is supporting the Christmas Appeal a wonderful way to give, but it’s also a time to appreciate all that we have by thinking of our local communities and other families.  We believe, one simple donation can give the opportunity for a better life.

We would like to extend the warm Christmas wishes and hope everyone has a festive and joyful holiday.

The St Vincent de Paul Society is always seeking volunteers and motivated individuals who would like to help their community.  To get involved, please visit the organisation at https://www.vinnies.org.au/page/Get_Involved/ . Alternatively, if you would like to donate to the Christmas Appeal, please call 13 18 12 or visit https://donate.vinnies.org.au/donation-hub-christmas-appeal.
