Donating to the 2019 St Vinnie’s Christmas Appeal
13th December, 2019 | by materialshandlingEvery year, Materials Handling proudly donates to the St Vinnie’s Christmas Appeal and, in 2019, this tradition was once more upheld.
A range of scooters and helmets were gifted to Greenslopes Private Hospital division, who will, in turn, give the toys to a number of boys and girls aged 13-years-old and under. Cementing the fundamental principles of giving and happiness this festive season, these donations will ensure children don’t go without on Christmas morning.
The St Vincent de Paul Society and their Christmas Appeal actively targets poverty and inequality. The confronting truth is that one in six Australian children live in poverty, with one in five not having enough to eat. The Christmas Appeal ensures that the kindness and generosity of contributors provide essential assistance to families, including supplying food, housing support, financial help and a special little something under the tree.
Last year, the St Vincent de Paul Society delivered around 350 hampers to families in need across the Northern Territory alone. CEO of St Vincent de Paul Society NSW, Jack de Groot, said one of the biggest issues families face is hunger due to ongoing drought, energy costs, high rents and inadequate support payments.
“For thousands of families, Christmas isn’t a time of celebration but of hunger, hardship and stress,” he said. “That’s why we hold our annual Christmas Appeal to support people doing it tough…Thanks to the community’s generosity, we’ll be helping thousands of families struggling with poverty to put a special meal on the table for Christmas.”

Matthew delivers 8 scooters and helmets to Greenslopes Private Hospital for the St Vinnies Christmas Appeal.
Every little bit counts and goes towards a family in need at a special time for most Australians. The true spirit of Christmas is found in giving to those less fortunate in the community and St Vinnies provides not only toys to children but food vouchers, hampers, clothing, support with bills, crisis accommodation and other services.
Materials Handling is proud to do its share for those in need. After all, a Christmas without joy is no Christmas at all.
If you would like to contribute to this worthy cause, visit St Vincent de Paul Society’s website and donate with food assistance, giving a gift or financial help.

Drum Safety Vents and Bung Locks
3rd March, 2017 | by excitemediaSafety drum vents facilitate safe waste solvent disposal whilst offering protection.
Utilising the automatic pressure and vacuum relief, the valve provides emergency pressure venting in the event of a fire to avoid drum failure and catastrophic consequences.
All safety drum vents automatically relieve pressure between 30 to 55kPa (3 and 8 psi) and include a flame arrester to absorb and safely dissipate heat.
A valve within the vent is tested to allow 1 litre of water through a 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) pipe nipple in less than 6 seconds for vacuum relief during drum dispensing operations.
This permits smooth liquid flow and prevents the possible drum collapse and leakage. The vacuum relief is automatic on vertically-installed vents and manual on horizontally-installed vents.

Drum Taps and Safety Valves
3rd March, 2017 | by excitemediaThese faucets are all self-closing and incorporate an internal flame arrestor.
When selecting a safety faucet you should also decide on which safety drum vent you are going to use as both products should be installed at the same time to gain full protection from flashbacks during dispensing.
Drum Fill Gauges for use with vertically-stored drums during waste disposal operations. Avoid overfilling and dangerous overflow – our polyethylene pop-up gauges provide an economical way to prevent accidents.

Drum Filling Funnels
3rd March, 2017 | by excitemediaDrum Filling Funnels have a large opening to allow fast dumping of liquid and minimise spills.
The funnels are fitted with a cover that is activated by a fusible link. The hinged cover also reduces the spread of vapours.
Note: It is important to segregate incompatible wastes to avoid chemical reactions or explosions.
Store drums properly indoors, or in a weather-protected area outside. Funnels can be left in place on the drums.
